Kuala lumpur: The National Digital Department (JDN) is actively drafting a public sector data digitalisation policy, announced Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo. This initiative forms part of the broader technology development agenda under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the policy will focus on identifying data across all ministries and government agencies. The aim is to ensure that data, whether analogue, audio, visual, or a combination, is digitised according to established standards. This process will consider data type, security levels, and privacy aspects, enabling prompt usage when necessary. Gobind stated that the policy is expected to be completed by the end of the year, as he addressed the Dewan Rakyat during the debate on the 13MP for the Digital Ministry.
Upon implementation of the data digitalisation effort, data storage will become a priority for the Digital Ministry. This will involve establishing a Data Bank as outlined under the 13MP framework. Gobind highlighted the Prime Minister’s commitment to this initiative, noting that the ministry is developing measures to ensure its success.
Additionally, a Data Commission will be formed under the 13MP to act as a regulatory body. This Commission will focus on governance, compliance with standards, and ensuring the protection of data remains safe, transparent, and maintains integrity.
To enhance digital services, the Digital Ministry plans to launch the MyGOV Malaysia mobile application. This app will serve as a one-stop center for government digital services, integrating various agency services in stages. MyDigital ID will be the primary login, offering categories such as information display, payment verification, and applications. Integration with federal, state, and local government services will occur in phases, starting next year and continuing until 2030.
