PSM Agrees To Change Name To Malaysian Sepak Takraw Federation

Kuala lumpur: The Sepak Takraw Association of Malaysia (PSM) has agreed to change its name to the Sepak Takraw Federation of Malaysia, with the Malay acronym remaining as PSM. The decision was made during an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) where the motion to amend the association’s constitution received support from over two-thirds of the total delegates, as stated by its president, Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the name change will only take effect if the amendment to the constitution is approved by the Sports Commissioner. “All amendments to the constitution will take effect after being approved by the Sports Commissioner. So we will send the request soon. As long as we don’t get approval, we can’t use it yet,” said Sumali following the association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.

Sumali further explained that the name change is intended to align with the naming conventions of other sports bodies that use the term ‘Federation’, thereby better reflecting the organization’s role as the primary administrator of sepak takraw in the country. “Actually, this isn’t new, we have discussed it before and many have agreed as it better reflects our role as the country’s main administrator of sepak takraw,” he added.

In addition to the name change discussion, the AGM also saw the announcement of the association’s officebearers for the 2025-2028 term. Sumali retained his position as president without contest, while Datuk Seri Abdul Puhat Mat Nayan was elected as deputy president. The positions of vice-presidents were filled by Datuk Abu Jimi Samat with 51 votes, Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abd Rahman with 48 votes, and Wan Mohd Husni Abdullah with 44 votes.
