Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed a strong desire for the new headquarters of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), named Olympic House, to be completed ahead of its planned 2028 timeline. The Olympic House is being developed by Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) at the Kuala Lumpur Sports City in Bukit Jalil.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar praised the efforts of OCM president Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria for his dedication to ensuring the project’s success. During the groundbreaking ceremony, Anwar emphasized the potential for enhanced sports performance through collaboration, as the facility will house over 50 organizations.
The Prime Minister connected the project to the Malaysia MADANI vision, highlighting its significance beyond mere infrastructure. He emphasized the importance of involving the entire population, especially the youth, in sports to foster unity and collective success. Anwar expressed his enthusiasm for the project and the spirit of bringing Malaysians together through sports.
With a gross floor area of 140,973 square feet, the Olympic House will unite 58 national sports associations, promoting collaboration and improved governance. The facility will include modern amenities such as an auditorium, resource center, gymnasium, museum, gallery, cafe, and prayer room. It will also incorporate sustainable features like solar-powered signage, smart lighting, rainwater harvesting, natural ventilation, and low-energy fixtures.
The Olympic House will occupy a 5.38-acre site, replacing the Wisma OCM, which has stood since 1991 near Stadium Merdeka. Anwar assured that the government will continue to support OCM, provided they focus on enhancing governance to benefit athletes, particularly young talents aspiring to elevate the nation’s sports standing.
Additionally, Anwar mentioned discussions with Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh regarding improvements in the country’s sports school system and other key institutions to ensure ongoing advancements in quality, facilities, and athlete development.
