Kuala Lumpur: Business communities, corporate leaders, and industry captains across ASEAN, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, and China are being urged to seize the momentum created by the successful conclusion of high-level deliberations at the ASEAN-GCC-China Summit. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized this call to action today, underscoring the roles of political leaders in ensuring policy clarity and regional stability, and imploring the private sector to act decisively.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, during the inauguration of the ASEAN-GCC-China Economic Forum, Anwar highlighted the need for the private sector to leverage the clear policies and political support provided by the summit’s leaders. He urged business leaders to act on the political leadership’s clear stance and clarity in economic policies, emphasizing the significance of collaboration and synergy to fulfill the aspirations of their countries.
China’s Premier Li Qiang and other notable figures, including Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and several cabinet ministers, were present at the opening ceremony. International attendees included the UAE’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade Dr. Thani Ahmed Al Zeyoudi and Saudi Minister of Investment Khalid Abdulaziz Al-Falih, among others.
Anwar, who also serves as Malaysia’s Finance Minister, described the outcomes of the ASEAN-GCC-China Summit as a testament to Malaysia’s and ASEAN’s central role, effective engagement, and strong commitment to economic fundamentals. He commended ASEAN leaders for their vision and resolve in addressing sensitive issues, reaffirming ASEAN’s independence and strategic relevance.
The Prime Minister also praised ASEAN’s strengthening partnership with the GCC, highlighting the council’s resilience and leadership in energy, digitalization, and artificial intelligence. He acknowledged China’s capacity for economic change and its focus on justice and fairness, urging collective efforts for humanity’s broader benefit.
The ASEAN-GCC-China Economic Forum 2025 was organized alongside the 46th ASEAN Summit, the 2nd ASEAN-GCC Summit, and the inaugural ASEAN-GCC-China Summit, themed ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’. These meetings mark Malaysia’s fifth time as ASEAN Chair.
