Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed a desire to enhance collaboration between Malaysian public higher education institutions (IPTA) and Japanese universities, with a focus on advanced research areas like quantum technology.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil relayed the Prime Minister's intentions during a Cabinet meeting following Anwar's recent official visit to Japan. Fahmi highlighted the significance of quantum technology, particularly in adopting quantum cryptology and quantum encryption, as discussed in his weekly press conference.
Fahmi, who also serves as the Unity Government spokesman, emphasized the importance of such academic partnerships in equipping local institutions with the capability to master future technologies. These advancements are essential for driving Malaysia's digitalisation agenda.
In addition, Fahmi noted that the Prime Minister urged the enhancement of existing strategic collaborations, such as those between Keio University and Universiti Malaya. Anwar has also encouraged local universities to take proactive measures in establishing closer ties with leading Japanese universities across various strategic fields.
This initiative aligns with the outcomes of the Prime Minister's recent discussions with Japanese investors, which addressed sectors including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, digital technology, critical minerals, and resilient supply chains.
