Kuala Lumpur: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) must fully utilise the post-election period to consolidate its strength and strengthen ties with the grassroots, said PKR Information Chief Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. Fahmi, who is contesting for a seat in PKR’s Central Leadership Council (MPP), emphasized the importance of this step in preparation for the upcoming 16th General Election (GE16).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi highlighted that elections are about making choices, but it is crucial to realize the aspirations and hopes of the grassroots. Speaking at the ‘Grand Finale – Bersama Membina Parti Kita’ programme, Fahmi stressed the need for party ministers and leaders to remain connected with the people and the party machinery at the divisional level.
The programme was attended by notable PKR figures including Nurul Izzah Anwar, who is vying for the Deputy President post, Vice President and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, and Women’s wing chief and Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek. Fahmi, who also serves as the Communications Minister, conveyed the President’s message urging ministers to engage with grassroots during their work visits.
Nurul Izzah, also a PKR Vice President, expressed her desire to work closely with the grassroots to strengthen the party, should she be elected as Deputy President. She emphasized the need for PKR leaders to increase their engagement with the people by explaining the party’s policies and programmes.
The Deputy President position is contested between Nurul Izzah and incumbent Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, the Economy Minister. The 2024/2025 PKR National Congress commenced with the opening of the Youth (AMK) and Wanita Congresses, officiated by Secretary-General Dr Fuziah Salleh.
