Johor bahru: PKR will contest at least 20 seats in the upcoming Johor state election and is expected to field candidates in 16 constituencies in the Negeri Sembilan polls, party secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh announced today. Fuziah, who also serves as Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, confirmed that seat allocations for both state elections have been finalized.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fuziah stated, "I understand that PKR will contest 16 seats in Negeri Sembilan and a minimum of 20 seats in Johor," during a press conference. This was said after attending the Rahmah MADANI Sales programme (PJRM), held in conjunction with the opening of a new Pantai Selamat supermarket branch.
Pakatan Harapan (PH) had previously declared its intention to contest all 56 seats in the Johor State Legislative Assembly. The Democratic Action Party (DAP) has confirmed its candidates will run in 17 constituencies. For the Negeri Sembilan elections, media reports suggest that PH will vie for all 36 state seats, with PKR allocated 16 seats, DAP with 11, and Amanah with nine.
The Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections are scheduled for July 11 and August 1, respectively. Fuziah mentioned that a high voter turnout could potentially benefit PH in Johor.
Commenting on the emergence of new political parties, Fuziah expressed hope for healthy campaigning, emphasizing a focus on beneficial policies and proposals. "Bring forward the good that you can offer, not criticism of other parties. What matters is what you can offer. That is how we should celebrate democracy. May the best party win," she stated.
Additionally, Fuziah mentioned plans to propose an increase in the fuel quota under the BUDI MADANI (BUDI95) programme for media practitioners to the Finance Ministry. She also highlighted PJRM statistics, noting that 13,692 programmes had been implemented nationwide from January until the present, including 974 in Pahang.
