Melaka: PKR must continue to defend a fair political approach to all sections of society, while respecting the position of Islam and the Malays in the Federal Constitution. PKR vice president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari emphasized the importance of respecting these core elements within the Federal Constitution at the PKR National Congress held at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amirudin highlighted that the reform struggle initiated by PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in 1998 had successfully mainstreamed various issues, including democracy enrichment, fair economic distribution, and integrity in government administration. Echoing this sentiment, PKR vice president Datuk Seri R. Ramanan stressed the need for PKR to defend racial diversity and reject the exploitation of racial issues for political gain.
Ramanan, who also serves as the Minister of Human Resources, underscored the importance of maintaining harmony among the people by resisting narrow political agendas. He urged party members to prioritize unity over personal interests to avoid weakening the party's machinery and enabling political opponents to gain an advantage.
Further reinforcing the call for unity, PKR vice president Datuk Chang Lih Kang noted that the party's strength lies in its ability to garner support across racial lines, as evidenced by the increased backing for DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke in the Chennah seat during the Negeri Sembilan State Election.
Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, another PKR vice president, described identity politics as a detrimental zero-sum game and advocated for performance-based politics to ensure the country's economic survival. As the Home Minister, Saifuddin outlined three main approaches for the MADANI Government and PKR leadership: driving economic growth to benefit all, providing need-based aid, and combating corruption to safeguard national assets.
Saifuddin emphasized that poverty and social issues, rather than racial diversity, pose the real threat to societal well-being. He called for a shift in focus towards addressing these challenges to foster a more inclusive and prosperous Malaysia.
