Kuala Lumpur: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Information chief Datuk Fahmi Fadzil is confident that there will be no split within the party after its central leadership election tomorrow. Fahmi, who is also the Communications Minister, believes that the election, to be held from 8 am to 5 pm, will run smoothly without any untoward incident.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi’s optimism is based on the situation during the divisional elections in April, which took place without any incidents of fighting or damage to property. Fahmi expressed his hope that the election process this time will be better and free from incidents like the one in Melaka during the 2022 PKR election, aiming instead to achieve unity and solidarity within the party.
During a briefing session for the media regarding the PKR National Congress central leadership election process, which was also attended by PKR secretary-general Dr. Fuziah Salleh and central election committee chairman Datuk Seri Dr. Zaliha Mustafa, Fahmi shared that even at the grassroots level, members from different groups are united in their desire for the party to remain strong and support PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in implementing reforms at the Federal level.
Elaborating further, Fahmi, who is the Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament, stated that the party has a method to engage with candidates who did not secure a position in the 2025-2028 term election. He emphasized the party’s commitment to maintaining unity and providing opportunities for all members to contribute to the party’s objectives.
Fahmi also expressed satisfaction with the election process preparations, which will involve 32,030 voters participating both physically and online. He mentioned visiting election locations and noted the need for improvements in areas such as internet access and media facilities to ensure a smooth process. Additionally, efforts have been made to coordinate with telecommunication service providers to prevent disruptions.
Regarding the keynote address by party president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the 2024/2025 PKR National Congress, Fahmi anticipates that Anwar will discuss party unity and the Federal reform agenda, along with national and international challenges such as trade issues. The congress begins with the opening of the central PKR Youth and Women’s Congress by Fuziah.
