Johor: Pakatan Harapan (PH) supporters have been urged to campaign in a clean, mature and responsible manner, and to refrain from responding to provocations for the 16th Johor State Election. PH candidate for the Kukup state seat, Cheah Chee Hong, emphasized the importance of preserving community bonds within Kukup, regardless of the election outcome.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Cheah stated that political competition during the election is temporary, but the relationships within the community must endure. "The election lasts only a few days, but we will continue to live together as neighbours and members of the Kukup community. Whether we win or lose, our relationships with one another must be maintained," Cheah expressed in a Facebook post today.
Cheah urged all parties involved in the election to campaign with dignity and mutual respect. He highlighted the importance of allowing voters to assess candidates based on their ideas, track records, and policy proposals, rather than through provocations or vandalistic acts. He stressed that such negative actions do not align with the values of the local community.
"Yesterday in Penerok, I was informed that one of my campaign banners had been defaced with inappropriate words," Cheah noted. He reminded everyone that in a democracy, individuals have the right to make their own choices and that political differences should not erode mutual respect. "We may hold different views, support different political parties and compete in the same contest, but mutual respect should never be lost because of political differences," he added.
This Saturday's 16th Johor state election will see the Kukup seat contested in a straight fight between Cheah and Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Md Israk Abdullah.
