Kuala Lumpur: Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) is prepared to take an active role in resolving energy supply challenges while addressing sustainability issues. President and group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Aziz noted that the recently concluded Energy Asia 2025 conference offered avenues for cross-industry collaboration in delivering viable and scalable solutions.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Energy Asia conference has been perceived as a neutral platform that focuses solely on energy supply and sustainability challenges without harboring any hidden agenda. In an exclusive interview with Bernama TV, Tengku Muhammad Taufik emphasized the prioritization of the sustainability agenda, especially given the current geopolitical instability and other uncertainties impacting energy supply continuity.
Tengku Muhammad Taufik highlighted that energy supply challenges are complex issues that cannot be addressed by a single entity, industry, or sector alone. He cited a recent initiative under Malaysia’s ASEAN chairmanship, which involves exporting renewable energy from Vietnam through Malaysia to potentially supply Malaysia and Singapore, the demand centers.
He mentioned that while substantial investments are necessary, a collaborative approach with uniform policies could enable Asia, particularly ASEAN, to develop realistic solutions promptly. The collaborative approach between the three countries is seen as a possible solution to the challenge of renewable energy sources being located away from demand centers.
The Energy Asia 2025 conference, themed ‘Delivering Asia’s Energy Transition’, attracted over 4,000 delegates from nearly 40 industries across more than 60 countries. The biennial event is set to return as Energy Asia 2027, scheduled for June 2-4, 2027.
