PERKESO Benefits to Go Fully Digital Next Year, Announces Ramanan

Kuala lumpur: Starting next January, all applications for Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) benefits under four main Acts can be submitted online, announced Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan. This digitalisation initiative encompasses the Employees' Social Security Act 1969, the Self-Employed Social Security Act 2017, the Employment Insurance System Act 2017, and the Housewives' Social Security Act 2022.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ramanan stated that the online submission process can be accessed via mobile phone or computer beginning January 1. He emphasized that this move is aimed at saving time and reducing travel costs for contributors. The announcement was made during his first official working visit to the PERKESO Tower, accompanied by PERKESO Board Chairman Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal and Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri Dr. Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed.

In addition to the digitalisation efforts, Ramanan revealed plans to implement the Non-Workplace Accident Scheme (SKBBK), also known as LINDUNG 24 Jam, by the first or second quarter of next year. Committed to transparency and efficiency, Ramanan assured that the scheme, already approved by the Dewan Negara, will be beneficial for workers.

Addressing concerns of cross-border workers, Ramanan highlighted PERKESO's intention to introduce a Traveller Scheme. A feasibility study is set to be conducted next year to determine the best protection mechanism for the nearly 400,000 Malaysians commuting daily to Singapore via the Johor Causeway. The minister has urged PERKESO to devise strategies to ensure these workers' safety.

Furthermore, to alleviate employers' financial burden, Ramanan announced an 80 percent reduction in Interest on Late Payment Contributions (ILPC) from now until the end of February next year. He noted that this penalty reduction is contingent on settling outstanding amounts by February's end, with the incentive primarily targeting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to support their continued operations.
