Perak: The Perak government has allocated RM720,000 to assist cooperatives in the state through the GKOP Urus and GKOP Pulih assistance grants. State Women, Family, Social Welfare, Cooperatives and Entrepreneur Development Committee chairman Datuk Salbiah Mohamed stated that the initiative aims to help cooperatives increase their income through various business activities.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the GKOP Urus grant supports cooperatives in their early business ventures with financial assistance of up to RM5,000. Meanwhile, the GKOP Pulih grant provides up to RM30,000 for cooperatives seeking to revive their operations and return to active status. Datuk Salbiah Mohamed highlighted that this form of assistance, introduced last year, has significantly contributed to strengthening cooperatives in the state.
The announcement was made following her attendance at the Sejati MADANI Impian Jadi Realiti Wilayah Programme, held in conjunction with National Cooperative Month 2025. The event was organized by the Malaysia Co-operative Societies Commission Perak Branch. During the programme, Salbiah emphasized the encouragement given to members of the Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) to establish cooperatives. This initiative leverages the RM100,000 allocation received from the federal government to manage business activities.
Salbiah further explained that the establishment of cooperatives serves as a management mechanism, empowering members to carry out business activities that have the potential to generate income. This approach aims to improve the socio-economic status of the community and its members. She added that the formation of cooperatives by the JPKK indirectly offers opportunities for members to engage in management roles and benefit economically from cooperative activities.
