Penang And Tamil Nadu Explore Enhanced Cooperation Across Culture, Economy

Penang: The Penang state government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening international cooperation and diaspora relations following a high-level engagement with the Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. Penang Housing and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Seri S. Sundarajoo said the meeting, held at the former actor's residence in India, underscored the shared resolve of both governments to deepen bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of cultural exchange and socioeconomic development.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, both sides acknowledged the deep historical and cultural connections linking Penang and Tamil Nadu, especially through the Tamil diaspora, and explored opportunities to further institutionalise collaboration for long-term mutual benefit. The discussions focused on potential avenues for enhanced collaboration across various sectors, including cultural exchange, community engagement, economic cooperation, and sustainable development.

Sundarajoo highlighted the shared heritage and values that continue to bind Penang and Tamil Nadu, while also recognising the importance of nurturing these ties in a manner that is progressive, inclusive, and mutually beneficial. He emphasized the state government's continued commitment to fostering international goodwill, strengthening diaspora relations, and building strategic partnerships that contribute positively to social, cultural, and economic development.

Furthermore, Sundarajoo stressed that the Penang state government remains committed to nurturing international partnerships that promote inclusivity, cultural preservation, and sustainable progress, while continuing to strengthen ties with Tamil Nadu as a valued and trusted partner. He was accompanied by Bagan Dalam state assemblyman K. Kumaran, Batu Uban state assemblyman A. Kumaresan, and North Chennai Member of Parliament Dr. Kalanidhi Veeraswamy during this engagement.

The cultural bond between India and Malaysia, particularly between Tamil Nadu and Penang, is rooted in a shared history spanning over 300 years.
