Pekan Coastal Erosion Project 63 Pct Complete.

PEKAN: Work on the coastal erosion control project in Kampung Tanjung Batu, Nenasi, here, which comprises coastal rehabilitation along a 4.3-kilometre (km) stretch and deepening of the Sungai Tering river mouth, has reached 63 per cent progress. Pahang Local Government, Housing, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman Datuk Mohammad Fakhruddin Mohd Ariff said the project’s progress, which is expected to be completed in 2026, is ahead of schedule and is essential to providing convenience and comfort to over 2,000 local residents.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohammad Fakhruddin emphasized the importance of completing government projects on time or earlier to ensure that the local population benefits from them. He stressed that the government allocation is ineffective if projects are not completed, thus denying people the facilities they deserve. His remarks were conveyed by Pekan district officer Datuk Zaliza Zulkipli during an event celebrating 150,000 safe manhours without lost time injury
at the project site.

Bebar assemblyman Mohammad Fakhruddin highlighted that the RM58 million project is anticipated to transform Kampung Tanjung Batu and Nenasi. Upon completion, Bukit Tanjung Batu, a site known for the sighting of the ‘Syawal’ moon in Malaysia, is expected to gain popularity. The project aims to generate employment and stimulate the local economy, particularly in the fishing and tourism industries.

The construction of a ‘training wall’ is designed to enhance the safety of the Tering River’s mouth and navigation channel, making it more suitable for fishing and tourism activities. Additionally, the beach nourishment work will result in a wider and cleaner Nenasi Beach, attracting both local and international tourists. This development is expected to lead to increased construction of chalets and budget hotels in the area.

Mohammad Fakhruddin also extended his congratulations to Vista Infinity Development Sdn Bhd, the project’s main contractor, for achieving a milestone of 150,000 safe workin
g hours without incidents.
