Peaceful Malaysia Spurs Tourism Growth, Says Prime Minister Anwar

Kuala lumpur: The tourism industry in Malaysia is experiencing significant development, attributed to the country's peaceful environment and harmonious multiracial diversity, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated. He emphasized the importance of preserving the rich cultural diversity that spans from Perlis to Sabah and Sarawak, which serves as a source of national pride.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Prime Minister made these remarks during the launch of the 'I LITE U' Lighting Innovation Project at Pavilion Bukit Bintang. The event was attended by notable figures, including Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh, Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, and Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, among others.

The launch was further highlighted by the presence of Oscar Award winner Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh, who also serves as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The Prime Minister expressed gratitude towards the ministers for supporting the I LITE U project, which contributes to maintaining a peaceful and calm atmosphere in Kuala Lumpur.

Anwar also acknowledged Michelle Yeoh's attendance, describing her as a disciplined actress who has achieved significant success in Hollywood, making Malaysia proud. He reflected on her journey from a remote town in Perak to becoming a celebrated Hollywood star.

The I LITE U project, an acronym for Infrastructure, Lighting, Innovation, Technology, and Eco-Sustainability towards Urbanisation, aims to beautify Kuala Lumpur's urban landscape and enhance its global tourism appeal in anticipation of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM 2026). The initiative targets 28 million tourist arrivals and aims to generate RM76 billion in revenue, distinguishing Kuala Lumpur from other global cities through its focus on safety, inclusivity, and sustainability in urban lighting.
