Terengganu: More than 5,000 people attended the Eastern Zone National Science Week (MSN) Carnival 2025, which began today and will run until Thursday at the Terengganu Science and Creativity Centre (PSKT) here. Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang stated that MSN served as a key platform to spark interest, raise awareness, and strengthen the country’s talent ecosystem in the field of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chang emphasized the importance of Malaysia not just being consumers but also creators and leaders in the face of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, digitalization, and the green economy. MOSTI is committed to building local talent inclusively and continuously to ensure the country is prepared and capable of leading future technological and economic transformations.
Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar officiated the opening of the carnival. Chang highlighted that each activity at the MSN Carnival aims to ensure that Malaysia can lead future technological and economic transformations by involving various stakeholders, including school students, university students, teachers, researchers, industry players, and the public.
The programme complements the existing school curriculum by incorporating hands-on and interactive co-curricular activities involving experts in STI. MOSTI plans to strengthen the implementation of MSN through an inclusive approach to ensure the public can fully benefit from science and technology through activities such as an interactive Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) exhibition, quizzes, workshops, and a career fair.
Chang believes the MSN Carnival can spark interest in science among the younger generation and bridge the STI gap through the involvement of various stakeholders, including educational institutions, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and the community.
Meanwhile, Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar described the MSN Carnival as a key effort to raise public awareness of the importance of STI. The state government is committed to supporting this initiative by involving state agencies and the private sector in implementing STI-based programmes and activities on a large scale, particularly in Terengganu.
Ahmad Samsuri stated that Terengganu’s selection as host for the eastern zone event is recognition of the state’s significant achievements in applying science and technology through the implementation of the Terengganu Sejahtera Master Plan (PITAS) 2030 towards becoming a developed, blessed, and prosperous state. The state government’s commitment to STI is evident through the establishment of the PSKT, the first science centre in the eastern zone of Peninsular Malaysia.
The organisation of the MSN Carnival is an initiative by MOSTI, through the PSN and strategic partners, namely the National Planetarium, the Academy of Sciences Malaysia, and Petrosains Discovery Centre Sdn Bhd. The organisation of MSN is also supported by Yayasan MR. DIY, which serves as the main sponsor for MSN 2025.
