Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has imposed a RM10,000 fine on Mohamad Shafiq Abdul Halim for posting offensive content on TikTok on March 31. The content was deemed to have touched upon racial and religious sensitivities, leading to the enforcement action.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, MCMC stated that the action was taken under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 [Act 588]. The investigation received approval from the Attorney General’s Chambers, allowing the compound to be issued to Halim.
MCMC emphasized the importance of responsible use of digital platforms, warning against the dissemination of content that could incite racial or religious tensions or show disrespect towards national institutions. The commission urged social media users to maintain ethical standards and responsibility in their online activities.
Furthermore, MCMC reiterated its dedication to ensuring a safe and regulated cyberspace that promotes national unity and social harmony.
