Kuala lumpur: Islamic Relief Malaysia (IR Malaysia) has appointed Datuk Nur Iskandar A. Samad as its new Board of Trustees chairman, effective yesterday. He takes over from Datuk Seri Syed Saleh Syed Abdul Rahman, who resigned on August 4 due to health concerns and the need to focus on recovery.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, IR Malaysia announced in a statement that the Board of Trustees had accepted Syed Saleh's decision, acknowledging his leadership and contributions to the organization's humanitarian mission. The statement expressed gratitude for his dedicated service and invaluable input during his tenure.
Nur Iskandar brings extensive experience from over 40 years in the oil, gas, and petrochemical industry, having held senior leadership roles at Petroliam Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS). Additionally, he was on the board of Vantris Energy Bhd, previously Sapura Energy Bhd, from 2023 to 2025, specializing in project management, manufacturing operations, and leadership development.
As a member of IR Malaysia's Board of Trustees since 2022, Nur Iskandar has actively supported the organization and its humanitarian mission. His familiarity with the organization and vast corporate and leadership experience are anticipated to provide significant guidance in enhancing its humanitarian impact and governance.
The statement further welcomed Nur Iskandar, expressing optimism for his leadership as IR Malaysia aims to strengthen its humanitarian mission and commitment to governance, accountability, and integrity. Nur Iskandar holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Chemical Engineering from the University of Leeds, UK, and has been involved with the Industry Advisory Councils of Universiti Sains Malaysia and Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS.
IR Malaysia, established in 2004, is part of the global Islamic Relief network, operating in over 40 countries and aiding more than 145 million people through fundraising and implementation of both local and international humanitarian projects.
