Bukit Jalil: Visitors to the National Training Week (NTW) 2025 Carnival have the opportunity to learn life-saving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for free and gain insights into the world of the visually impaired. Academy of Safety and Emergency Care (ASEC) Strategic Task Force manager Muazzam Jamaluddin said visitors are given hands-on exposure to initial life-saving techniques during emergencies.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Jamaluddin emphasized the importance of demonstrating and teaching the correct way to perform CPR, allowing the public to feel confident in taking action during emergencies. Attendees are guided on how to apply proper chest compressions and assess the accuracy of their technique. A special device challenges visitors to perform CPR for two minutes, testing their effectiveness in saving lives within 120 seconds.
Jamaluddin added that in addition to CPR training, a disaster management simulation module is available to teach the concept of triage, which involves prioritizing treatment in situations with multiple victims. Visitors learn how to identify who should receive immediate treatment during large-scale incidents.
One visitor, Hidayatus Syafiyyah Kamaludin, expressed the value of practicing CPR and learning the correct technique, which she found useful for emergencies involving family members or the public. This was her first opportunity to try CPR firsthand.
Meanwhile, Nor Saliza Jusoh, a publishing assistant at the Textbook Division of the Islamic Society of the Blind (PERTIS), highlighted the aim of raising awareness on assisting the visually impaired correctly. She explained common mistakes, such as grabbing a cane or backpack, and provided guidance on how to offer assistance properly, like allowing the individual to hold an elbow or shoulder.
Visitors also have the opportunity to use a Braille typewriter (Perkins Brailler) and identify basic Roman and Jawi Braille characters. NTW 2025, organised by the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) with support from the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA), runs nationwide from today until June 21, offering over 70,000 free courses.
