Kuala lumpur: Artificial intelligence (AI) development in Malaysia must be inclusive and ensure that every segment of society benefits, said Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo. He emphasized that technologies, whether through cloud-based platforms for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) or AI-assisted diagnostics for remote clinics, must deliver tangible value to every Malaysian.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Gobind highlighted various initiatives aimed at empowering Malaysians to compete and lead in the global digital economy across sectors such as agriculture, education, healthcare, finance, and tourism. He stressed the importance of AI-driven productivity benefiting every Malaysian, urging inclusivity and collaboration during his keynote address at the Huawei Cloud AI Ecosystem Summit APAC 2025, held as part of the ASEAN AI Malaysia Summit 2025 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC).
The minister noted that building an ‘AI nation’ under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) requires strengthening infrastructure, enhancing security, and developing local talent, with collaboration being crucial for these goals. He emphasized the need to learn from industry and international partners about advancements in other countries, sectors, and industries.
Gobind commended Huawei Malaysia for its role in shaping the nation’s digital economy and developing local talent. He cited the Huawei ICT Academy and its AI Talent Development Plan as examples of nurturing a future-ready workforce with industry-relevant skills. He also highlighted the collaborative effort behind Huawei Malaysia’s AI-Native cloud infrastructure showcase, which exemplifies how partnerships can drive intelligent, sector-wide upgrades.
Furthermore, Gobind underscored the importance of governance and regulatory frameworks to ensure safe and sustainable AI adoption, especially as Malaysia becomes increasingly reliant on data-driven infrastructure. He warned against the potential risks of a breakdown in data systems that could impact all sectors.
Gobind concluded by stating that the government must adapt policies and legislation in line with emerging technologies while ensuring safety and security. He urged for proactive thinking to build an ecosystem that prepares Malaysia for future technological advancements.
