Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has stressed that he does not interfere in judicial matters, including the appointment of judges or court decisions. He stated that all appointments and extensions of service, including for judges, must follow procedures as outlined in the Federal Constitution.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar clarified that the process involves a commission, the Prime Minister, and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. He emphasized that recent appointments were conducted with candidates submitted to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and discussed in the Conference of Rulers, adhering to all required procedures.
Anwar further highlighted that any appointment or extension influenced by particular groups would undermine the judiciary’s integrity. He warned against the politicization of the judiciary, stating that it could lead to decisions giving an impression of betrayal.
The Prime Minister reiterated that judicial decisions fall entirely within the court’s jurisdiction and affirmed his non-interference in judicial rulings. He addressed the public’s tendency to interpret judicial decisions through political lenses, citing high-profile cases involving Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Anwar urged respect for judicial decisions, noting the inconsistency in public reactions to different cases. He mentioned the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s decision on June 20 to grant a DNAA to Najib in three charges related to SRC International Sdn Bhd funds, and the Court of Appeal’s June 25 acquittal of Syed Saddiq on charges involving ARMADA funds.
