Perak: No durian glut has been reported so far in Perak as it has always received high demand from fans of the king of fruits, said state Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) director Azleena Zainal Abidin.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the production of both kampung durian and clone durian in Perak aligns with the demand from local and export markets. Azleena noted that the state consistently receives high demand for durian exports to China, Hong Kong, and Singapore, with each shipment ranging from 100 to 200 metric tonnes.
Last year, FAMA secured over 500 tonnes of durians from farmers, distributing them both domestically and internationally. Azleena shared these insights following the Eat More Local Fruits and Durian Promotion Campaign Programme, which was inaugurated by the state Rural Development, Plantation, Agriculture and Food Industry Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun at Kampung Simee Farmers' Market.
Azleena highlighted Batu Kurau, Kampung Gajah, and Tapah as the top three durian-producing areas in Perak. Meanwhile, Datuk Mohd Zolkafly emphasized that the campaign reflects the state government's commitment to supporting farmers and ensuring consumer satisfaction.
The initiative aims to evaluate farm-level conditions, stabilize prices, and boost local durian demand. Perak state FAMA confirmed that durian purchases would continue as long as supplies last, with distribution through wholesale, retail, and FAMA Operations Centre direct sales channels.
Mohd Zolkafly stated that the campaign supports FAMA's goals by increasing local durian demand, stabilizing farm-level prices, and enhancing the durian marketing chain with active industry player participation.
