No Delays In Tanjung Bidara Coastal Upgrade Project, Says Exco

Melaka: There are no delays or suspension issues in the coastal upgrading project at Tanjung Bidara, as it is proceeding according to schedule in line with a more efficient and sustainable updated technical design.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Melaka Senior Executive Councillor (Exco) for Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management Datuk Rais Yasin stated that as of June 25, the project had reached 40 percent physical completion, which is five percent or 25 days ahead of its original schedule.

He highlighted that this achievement reflects the strong commitment of all involved parties in ensuring the smooth implementation of the Tanjung Bidara coastal defence upgrade project. The project is expected to be completed on September 14 next year, as per the original contractor’s timeline.

“Although there was a temporary pause in physical works at the site due to necessary changes in the original design following structural impacts caused by wave action, the project was never suspended,” said Rais Yasin. The decision to reassess the original design was made by the Coastal Zone Management Division (BPZP) of the Melaka Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) to align with current technical requirements and long-term protection priorities.

The coastal upgrading project in Tanjung Bidara, with a total cost of RM2.29 million, commenced on August 15 last year and is scheduled for full completion by September 14, 2026. Its primary goal is to protect the Tanjung Bidara coastline from erosion and the effects of high tide phenomena.
