Kuala lumpur: A newly appointed concession company, Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd, will take over parking fee collection and enforcement in four Selangor local councils (PBTs) from August 1. State Local Government and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim announced that the company was appointed by Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) (MBI Selangor) for the initiative’s first phase, which includes Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ), Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), and Selayang Municipal Council (MPS).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, this move is part of the state government’s efforts to enhance parking revenue, which currently sees only about a 30 per cent collection from 1,000 designated bays. Ng explained that the concessionaire will handle both fee collection and enforcement, with oversight from the councils and the state government. He expressed the aim to achieve a collection rate of over 60 per cent and to reduce double parking in busy areas.
Ng outlined the revenue-sharing model, where the concessionaire will receive 50 per cent of the collection, while the remaining 50 per cent will be allocated to the state, with 40 per cent going to the councils and 10 per cent to MBI Selangor. Addressing concerns about the tender process, Ng refuted claims of a closed process, stating that 26 companies responded to a Request for Proposal (RFP), and three were shortlisted. The final selection was based on strict performance criteria, and Ng highlighted that the 10-year contract could be terminated if targets are not met.
Ng also reassured the public that the new system would not result in increased parking rates, which will remain between 40 and 60 sen per hour.
