Kuala lumpur: The Health Ministry (MOH) will present an expert committee’s recommendation on banning electronic cigarettes or vape to the Cabinet once the study is completed, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad. He stated that the recommendation would mark a key step towards implementing the ban.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Dzulkefly emphasized the ministry’s commitment to the vape ban, asserting that it is no longer a question of ‘if’. He mentioned that he would present the proposal to the Cabinet for consideration after speaking to reporters at the Sihat Milik Semua carnival at Dewan 2020. The event was officiated by the Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, with Raja Puan Muda of Perlis Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil in attendance, in celebration of the Silver Jubilee of the reign of the Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail.
Dr Dzulkefly also noted that the enforcement of the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024 (Act 852) has already yielded results, with the number of smoking product variants in the market declining to 2,794 in June from 6,824 prior to the Act’s enforcement. He stated that this reduction indicated that only 40.9 percent of the variants remain, and expressed confidence that strict enforcement would effectively regulate cigarette and vape sales. He stressed the importance of protecting non-adults, students, and children from exposure to vape products.
He concluded by reaffirming that Act 852 would be enforced rigorously to regulate all smoking products, including vape, to ensure public health.
