MOE’s Cooperation Crucial For Safe Internet Campaign In Schools: Teo

Pasir puteh: The Communications Ministry is calling for continued collaboration from the Ministry of Education (MOE) to ensure the successful implementation of the Safe Internet Campaign (KIS) in schools. This initiative aims to enhance digital literacy among students by educating them on internet safety.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching emphasized the importance of this collaboration as KIS aims to educate primary and secondary school students about internet safety, given the growing reliance on digital platforms. The program’s content is specifically tailored to different age groups, with Level One targeting Years One to Three, and Level Two focusing on Years Four to Six and secondary school students.

Teo stressed the necessity of MOE’s cooperation to integrate KIS into the school curriculum, highlighting the importance of educating students on staying safe online. The campaign includes interactive activities for primary schools to help students grasp the concepts, focusing on issues like cyberbullying, which is a significant concern for younger students.

The KIS initiative, launched on January 21, addresses four key areas: cyberbullying, online scams and gambling, child sexual exploitation, and data protection and digital literacy. It aims to reach over 10,000 educational institutions by the end of the year. Teo noted that students are also being educated on child sexual exploitation, an issue they may face in today’s digital age.

The campaign targets 344 schools nationwide for its rollout from May to August this year, including 64 schools in Sabah. As of July 1, the program has been implemented in 221 schools, involving 31,246 participants, including students, teachers, and parents. The initiative also benefits from the support of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that help develop engaging co-curricular activities.

Earlier, Teo shared on Facebook her participation in the Mukim Luagan Community Outreach Programme, organized by Pertubuhan Pelangi Harapan Sabah in collaboration with various agencies. She highlighted the importance of health awareness, particularly as Malaysia approaches becoming an ageing nation by 2030. Grassroots outreach initiatives are crucial to ensuring inclusivity and awareness in local communities.

Pertubuhan Pelangi Harapan chairman Grelydia Gillod expressed the initiative’s goal of supporting government efforts to disseminate information about the MADANI government’s initiatives. She hopes for increased participation from government agencies in future programs to enhance public awareness of their roles and contributions.
