Kuala Lumpur: A modern and dynamic free trade agreement will bring mutual benefits, open doors to new business opportunities, and improve supply chain resilience. The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) emphasized that in the current ever-changing geopolitical landscape, it is essential to build new partnerships, foster collaborations, and explore new opportunities.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced today the resumption of negotiations on the Malaysia-European Union Free Trade Agreement (MEUFTA). The announcement coincides with the prime minister’s working visit to Brussels, Belgium, scheduled for January 19-20, 2025.
Following the announcement, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz and the Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security of the European Commission, Maros Sefcovic, welcomed the resumption of negotiations on the MEUFTA. This development marks an important moment in the enhancement of trade relations and economic integration between Malaysia and the European Union.
MITI expressed optimism about a productive first round of negotiations in the coming months, reinforcing the potential for strengthened trade relations and collaborative economic growth.
