Miri Landslide: Help From Experts In Kl To Be Sought If Needed – Uggah

Miri: The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) is prepared to bring in experts from Kuala Lumpur to assist in rescuing victims buried in the landslide which occurred in Miri early today. Committee chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also the Sarawak Deputy Premier, stated that expert assistance will only be sought if necessary.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the operation to find the missing victims is still ongoing, and the situation is being assessed continuously. Uggah mentioned that if the need arises, experts from Kuala Lumpur may be called in to aid the rescue efforts. This statement was made during the state-level Chinese New Year celebration.

The landslide, which took place at 2.58 am, resulted in six victims feared buried under the rubble. Rescue teams have so far recovered the bodies of a teenage boy and a woman. The disaster affected two houses situated on the slopes of Bukit Kanada in Miri.

In a related update, Uggah reported that 15 temporary evacuation centers have been established in Kuching, Serian, and Samarahan to accommodate flood victims, while a center in Miri is designated for landslide victims. Personnel at both division and district levels are on alert for any further developments.

Uggah advised residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and to evacuate promptly if instructed by JPBN. He also emphasized that JPBN and other relevant agencies are collaborating to ensure the safe evacuation of flood victims.
