Melaka: The Melaka state government has allocated more than RM45 million to enhance religious schools, Melaka Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) kindergartens, tahfiz institutions, and Al-Quran study centres within the state this year. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh emphasized the importance of Islamic education as a foundational element in shaping individuals and strengthening morals.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the federal government has also approved an allocation of RM6.87 million to bolster the infrastructure in 134 Islamic educational institutions in Melaka. This is part of the state government's continuous efforts to advocate for the needs of Islamic educational institutions. Religious education is regarded as a crucial part of the education system, aiming to produce a generation of Ulul Albab.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Teacher's Day Celebration and 2025 JAIM Religious School Academic Excellence Awards, outlined several initiatives to enhance student excellence and elevate the teaching profession. Among these initiatives is the increase in allowances for Quran and Fardhu Ain (KAFA) Class teachers and JAIM Kindergarten teachers to RM1,700 per month. This increase serves as a symbol of respect and appreciation for educators dedicated to guiding the children of Melaka.
Furthermore, the state government continues to support female JAIM teachers by maintaining the maternity leave allowance initiative. This initiative recognizes and appreciates their dual roles as educators and mothers who shape the next generation.
At the event, 84 students from 28 schools who excelled in the Al-Quran and Fardhu Ain Class Assessment Test (UPKK) received the Academic Excellence Award. Additionally, 149 JAIM teachers were honored with the Excellent Performance Service Award. The prestigious JAIM Teacher of the Year Award was presented to Shamsiah Zakariah, the former principal of Sekolah Rendah Agama JAIM Paya Rumput.
