MCMC Removes Over 2,000 Unauthorized Ads Amid Rising Complaints

Permas jaya: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has taken decisive action by removing 2,033 advertisements related to unauthorized products and services from January to August 1, as announced by Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching. This operation was initiated in response to 2,283 complaints received during this period, marking a continued effort since 2022 to tackle the issue of unauthorized advertisements.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the MCMC’s efforts in 2022 saw the removal of all ads following eight complaints. In contrast, 2023 witnessed 439 complaints, leading to the removal of 390 ads. The upward trend continued into 2024, with 3,312 complaints resulting in the removal of 1,643 unauthorized online ads. These figures were shared by Teo during a press conference following her officiation of the Johor-level MADANI MSME Digital Grant (GDPM) Festival 2025 in Permas Jaya.

Teo also highlighted the ongoing collaboration between her ministry and the Ministry of Health (MOH) to address false advertising in the medicine and health service sectors. The MOH plays a crucial role in identifying unauthorized cases, and upon receiving a complaint from the MOH, the MCMC promptly notifies social media platform providers to remove the advertisement. Public complaints, such as those involving fake medicines, are referred to the MOH for verification before any further action is taken.
