Malaysia’s Osaka Expo National Day Celebration Reinforces Unity, Resilience And Japan Partnership

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia celebrated its National Day at Expo 2025 Osaka with a powerful message of unity, resilience, and international cooperation, highlighting the country’s deepening partnership with Japan.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof remarked on Malaysia’s impressive transition from a commodity-based economy to a dynamic, global player in under seven decades, attributing this success to the sacrifices of the founding generation and the strength of its diverse population. He emphasized that Malaysia is defined by its progress and the spirit of its people, who draw strength from diversity, adapt with courage, and move forward collectively. This vision aligns with the Masyarakat MADANI framework, grounded in sustainability, care and compassion, respect, innovation, prosperity, and trust.

The Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Mohd Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, delivered the speech on behalf of Fadillah. As the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, Fadillah highlighted the longstanding relationship with Japan, initiated post-independence in 1957 and further solidified with the 1982 “Look East Policy.”

He noted a significant milestone reached in December 2023 with the launch of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, encompassing areas such as security, green transformation, and global cooperation. Fadillah stated that over 28,000 Malaysians have pursued education in Japan, with institutions like the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology fostering academic and cultural exchange.

On the economic front, Malaysia and Japan share a robust economic relationship. In the first half of 2025, trade between the two countries surged by 138.8 per cent, totaling RM70.41 billion. Malaysian exports, including electronics, palm oil, and processed food, rose by 79.2 per cent, while imports of machinery and jewellery from Japan also saw significant growth.

Japanese investment in Malaysia remains strong, with over 2,800 manufacturing projects completed, creating 340,000 jobs and contributing RM105.9 billion to the economy, particularly in semiconductors, clean energy, and advanced manufacturing. Fadillah highlighted Malaysia’s role as ASEAN Chair and Japan’s hosting of Expo Osaka, underlining their shared leadership in shaping global discourse.

He stressed that as ASEAN Chair, Malaysia is committed to fostering a stable and prosperous community that is resilient, inclusive, and dedicated to providing new opportunities for its people. Malaysia’s participation in Expo 2025 Osaka, following its debut in 1970, showcases its confidence and visionary approach to inclusive growth and international collaboration.

The event, themed “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” will serve as a six-month platform for showcasing innovative ideas and technologies. It is scheduled to take place from April 13 to October 13 on the man-made island of Yumeshima in Osaka.
