Malaysia to Host AARDO International Training Programme 2025 in Langkawi

Langkawi: Malaysia has been selected to host the African-Asian Rural Development Organisation (AARDO) International Training Programme, which will take place in Langkawi, Kedah, from July 15 to 22, as announced by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the programme will welcome 20 government officials from AARDO member states. This eight-day event aims to enhance understanding of Malaysia’s rural development policies, focusing on poverty eradication and improving competencies in implementing development projects. The programme also seeks to promote an inclusive and sustainable approach to regional development.

Dr Ahmad Zahid emphasized the significance of the programme in expanding strategic partnerships and reinforcing Malaysia’s role as a global development partner. He conveyed this message in a Facebook post, highlighting the importance of the event in building knowledge bridges and sharing experiences between Asian and African nations.

Since its inception in 1962, with founding members including Egypt, India, Japan, Libya, and Malaysia, AARDO has grown to include 33 members, comprising 17 African and 14 Asian full members, along with two associate members. The organisation serves as a vital platform for collaborative discussions on rural development and agricultural matters between African and Asian countries. Malaysia, through the Institute of Rural Advancement (INFRA) and the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, has remained actively involved in training and capacity development within AARDO since its establishment.
