Kuala lumpur: National men's doubles head coach Herry Iman Pierngadi announced that only two pairs will be chosen to represent Malaysia in the team event at the 2026 Asian Games. The selection process will focus on current performances in key tournaments, including the World Championships and upcoming World Tour events. According to BERNAMA News Agency, the current squad is being prepared, but further evaluations will be conducted before finalizing the list. Herry emphasized the difference in selection criteria compared to the Thomas Cup, where three pairs are allowed. He urged players to enhance their performance to ensure they are in top form for these major competitions. Herry mentioned that young players, such as Wan Arif Wan Junaidi and Yap Roy King, could potentially join the squad if their performances are consistent. He highlighted the importance of monitoring the players' physical condition, particularly Man Wei Chong, to prevent injuries before major tournaments. He further explained that the tou rnament schedule has been strategically planned, selecting suitable events in Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia, depending on the players' condition. There will be designated rest periods for injury recovery, with decisions based on performance leading up to the World Championships and the Asian Games, which will be held from September 19 to October 4 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
