Kota Kinabalu: Malaysia’s selection as the ASEAN Chair for 2025 is an indicator that reflects the trust and recognition of the international community towards the country’s leadership capabilities and potential. Sabah chief minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor remarked on the significance of this selection, emphasizing the country’s growing international stature.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, since taking office, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has successfully restored Malaysia’s position on the world stage. Hajiji highlighted that the country’s economic growth is on the right track under Anwar’s leadership, which has attracted foreign investments worth billions of ringgit. He expressed pride in the achievement and noted that the Prime Minister is frequently invited to international forums to discuss issues of global interest.
The Chief Minister attributed Malaysia’s strong international presence to the spirit of tolerance and unity within the country, which allows its people to enjoy a harmonious and prosperous environment. He also outlined various initiatives by the state government to support the poor in Sabah, such as providing a monthly aid of RM300 per person for a year, benefiting 100,000 recipients. Additionally, 3,000 units of Rumah Mesra Sabah Maju Jaya will be constructed for the hardcore poor this year.
Furthermore, Hajiji detailed initiatives aimed at supporting students from Sabah, including a RM600 airfare subsidy for those studying in Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak, and Labuan. Students at local institutions of higher learning wishing to return home will receive RM300 each. The state government’s scholarship allocation has also been increased to RM128 million this year, up from RM50 million, reflecting a significant investment in human capital development and education. Last year, around RM470 million was spent on these efforts by the state government.
