Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced efforts to collaborate with leaders of friendly nations to facilitate the release of activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0, who have been detained by the Zionist regime. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that the activists are treated humanely and protected from any form of abuse.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar communicated Malaysia's demand that the activists should not be mistreated or deprived of their humanitarian rights. The activists, who are part of a mission aimed at delivering peace and humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, must not face any inhumane actions. Anwar urged for prayers and support, expressing hope that these efforts would be successful.
In response to inquiries about the government's next steps, Anwar confirmed that Malaysia has formally protested the interception of the Gaza-bound flotilla and the detention of over 100 activists, including 16 Malaysians, involved in the mission. He reiterated this after attending the National Sports Awards 2025 ceremony at Bukit Jalil.
The Sumud Nusantara Command Center (SNCC) had earlier confirmed that Israeli forces intercepted nine GSF vessels at 8 pm Malaysian time. The vessels, carrying 16 Malaysians, were approached aggressively by Israeli naval forces in international waters near Cyprus, according to SNCC director-general Datuk Dr Sani Araby Abdul Alim Araby.
