Malaysia Seeks OIC Support to Condemn Israel’s Actions: Anwar

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia stands ready to engage Islamic world leaders through the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to strongly condemn Israel’s escalating violence and human rights violations, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today. He emphasized his commitment to personally reach out to key Muslim leaders regarding the issue.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar stated that he would initiate contact with several influential figures, including the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. This move comes in response to Israel’s recent airstrike in Doha, Qatar, which targeted a meeting of Hamas political leaders discussing a United States-backed ceasefire proposal for Gaza.

The strike, which occurred in the Leqtaifiya district and reportedly involved around 15 Israeli fighter jets, resulted in the death of six individuals, including the son of senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya, his office director, and a Qatari security officer. Despite the attack, top Hamas leaders reportedly survived.

The announcement was made during the 9th International Conference on Social Sciences and Humanities (ICOSH 2025), which Anwar officiated. The conference, themed ‘Human Relationship in the Era of Artificial Intelligence and Technology,’ aims to address various disciplines such as social work, psychology, linguistics, and politics, among others.

Organized by the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities (FSSK) at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), the conference seeks to strengthen collective efforts in deepening understanding and expanding collaboration on global social issues. Notable attendees included Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir and UKM Board of Directors chairman Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Mohamad Abd Razak.
