Malaysia Falls Short in Sepak Takraw World Cup Semifinals Against Myanmar

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia failed to defend their regu title after losing 0-2 to Myanmar in the 2026 Sepak Takraw World Cup semi-final match at Titiwangsa Stadium today. Malaysians Mohammad Syahir Mohd Rosdi, Farhan Adam, and Mohamad Azlan Alias could not match the consistent rhythm of their opponents and lost 9-15 in the first set.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Muhammad Haziq Hairul Nizam replaced Mohammad Syahir, who seemed to have sustained an injury, in an effort to change the team's fortunes. However, they were unable to stop the Myanmar trio of Thant Zin Tun, Aung Aung, and Ye Htet, who won 15-10 and secured a place in the final.

Coach Ahmad Jais Baharun admitted that the team's performance was not to his liking but accepted the loss. "We lost to Myanmar and I have to accept it with an open heart that our regu players' performance was not at its usual. This was an advantage to the Myanmar team. If we look at their performance in terms of attack and defense, they were better and stronger compared to the Malaysian team," he said after the match.

Myanmar will face Thailand in the final, as Thailand overcame South Korea 2-1 in the other semi-final match.
