Malaysia Ends Fourth Day Of 2025 WUG Without Winning Any Medals

Essen: The Malaysian contingent ended the fourth day of the 2025 Rhine-Ruhr World University Games without winning any medals after Malaysians competing in taekwondo and swimming events crashed out in the initial rounds today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fu Cern Put Thai, Malaysia’s sole taekwondo exponent competing today, lost 0-2 to Enes Kaplan of Turkiye in the first round of the men’s 58 kilogramme (kg) kyorugi event at Messe Essen here today. Meanwhile, Malaysian swimmers Lim Yin Chuen and Arvin Shaun Singh Chahal failed to qualify for the semi-final of the men’s 100 metre (m) freestyle. Arvin finished fifth with a time of 50.05 seconds (s), achieving a new personal best, while Yin Chuen managed seventh place with a time of 50.28 s in Heat 7 at Schwimm- und Sprunghalle im Europasportpark, Berlin.

So far, the Malaysian team has only one silver medal, courtesy of Khiew Hoe Yean in the men’s 400 m freestyle. However, both swimming and taekwondo still may offer up medals as competition will carry on till Wednesday.

The contingent aims to increase their medal haul and achieve their seven-medal target for the games as Malaysians begin competing in athletics, archery, and artistic gymnastics tomorrow.

Sixty-four Malaysian athletes are competing in six out of 19 sports at the 2025 WUG, including gymnastics, badminton, archery, athletics, swimming, and taekwondo.
