Tashkent: Malaysia and Uzbekistan will continue to strengthen friendly relations and bilateral cooperation in the field of law, announced Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said. Azalina highlighted this commitment following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Uzbekistan’s Justice Minister, Akbar Tashkulov, during her official working visit to Tashkent.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the MoU covers the exchange of publicly accessible laws on matters of mutual interest and the sharing of experiences and best practices, especially in legal reform. The agreement also includes capacity-building initiatives such as training programmes, seminars, conferences, and joint field studies, alongside efforts to foster professional ties between legal officers from both nations.
Azalina mentioned that during the meeting, discussions were held on various legal matters, particularly the legal reform agenda and the MADANI Government institutions, which the Uzbek side described as a progressive step. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in legal systems to enhance access to justice and arbitration as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism were also discussed.
Furthermore, Azalina noted that Minister Akbar expressed his commitment to attend the ASEAN Law Forum 2025, which is scheduled to take place from August 19 to 21, as part of Malaysia’s ASEAN 2025 chairmanship.
