Ankara: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan today witnessed the signing of seven documents aimed at strengthening strategic cooperation between Malaysia and Turkiye across several key areas.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the documents were signed during Anwar's three-day official visit to Turkiye, which began yesterday at the invitation of Erdogan. Among the significant agreements was the Joint Declaration on the Establishment of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC).
The Ministry of Home Affairs of Malaysia and Desan Shipyard signed a letter of acceptance for the procurement of a Multi-Purpose Mission Ship (MPMS). In the technology sector, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and the Information and Communication Technologies Authority of the Republic of Turkiye signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focusing on Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Research and strategic thought collaboration will be enhanced through an MoU on Research Cooperation between the Institute of Strategic and International Studies Malaysia and the Foundation for Political, Economic and Social Research in Turkiye. This agreement covers political, economic, and social fields.
Financial and investment cooperation between the two nations received a boost with the signing of a Financial Cooperation MoU between EXIM Bank Malaysia and Turk Eximbank, alongside an Investment Cooperation MoU between the Malaysian Investment Development Authority and Invest Turkiye. Additionally, both countries exchanged the Minutes of the First Meeting of the Malaysia-Turkiye Joint Committee on Higher Education.
The statement emphasized that the signing of these documents showcases Malaysia and Turkiye's shared commitment to creating a structured, progressive, and complementary bilateral relationship that focuses on strategic interests and long-term benefits for the people of both nations.
