Malaysia Accelerates Towards AI Nation by 2030 with Strategic Initiatives

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Digital has intensified efforts to establish an ecosystem that will facilitate Malaysia’s transformation into an artificial intelligence (AI) Nation by 2030. The ministry’s dedication was highlighted by Minister Gobind Singh Deo, who outlined the strategic steps being undertaken to leverage infrastructure and technology in this ambitious venture.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Gobind Singh Deo emphasized that the ministry is taking definitive actions to realize the AI nation vision. He pointed out that numerous industries have already begun integrating AI solutions, and he anticipates a rapid adoption of these technologies in the near future. He shared these insights during the launch of the SmartGov Malaysia Summit 2025 and the Malaysia Digital Xceleration (MDX) Summit 2025. The minister also projected a significant increase in digital economy investments, aiming for a 25.5 percent contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) by 2025, with expectations of reaching 30 percent by 2030.

The Malaysia Digital Economic Corporation (MDEC) further elaborated that the concurrent MDX Summit 2025 and SmartGOV Malaysia Summit 2025 marked the nation’s progress in digital transformation. The summits underscored Malaysia’s capability in utilizing its expansive 5G network and broader digital ecosystem, which are pivotal for fostering inclusivity, resilience, and sustainability within the digital economy. MDEC’s CEO, Anuar Fariz Fadzil, highlighted the summits as platforms for forging connections among global innovators, local talent, investors, and policymakers to propel Malaysia’s digital economy.

In a separate initiative, the International Sourcing Programme (INSP) aims to generate RM2.5 billion in sales through over 4,000 business meetings at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC). The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) chairman, Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, emphasized the significance of establishing long-term partnerships through the programme, which connects 300 international buyers with 600 Malaysian exporters. The participation of major buyers like JD.com and Reliance Industries Ltd presents Malaysian SMEs with opportunities to access international retail networks.

MATRADE CEO, Datuk Seri Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz, noted that the meetings aim to create sustainable trade partnerships, facilitated by MATRADE’s global network of trade offices. The introduction of the AI-powered MADANI Digital Trade platform enhances these efforts by matching exporters with international buyers based on market data and preferences. The platform will support virtual connections until November 5, extending the reach of the INSP MIHAS 2025 beyond the physical event.
