Malay Unity Shouldn’t Be Misinterpreted, Mutual Respect Strengthens National Stability – Selangor Sultan

Selangor: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has stressed that calls for Malay unity should not be misconstrued as hostility towards other races in Malaysia. Instead, His Royal Highness said united communities would contribute to a more peaceful and stable nation, while fostering mutual respect among the people.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sultan Sharafuddin emphasized the importance of mutual respect among different races and religions in Malaysia, particularly during the upcoming Aidiladha celebrations. He cited the historical example of the Ottoman Empire, where Islamic civilization thrived due to the harmonious coexistence of multi-ethnic communities under Islamic rule.

Sultan Sharafuddin further noted that Aidiladha teaches Muslims the values of sacrifice, sincerity, and the unity of the ummah, as millions of Muslims gather in the Holy Land regardless of rank, race, or status. This gathering demonstrates a significant form of unity within the Islamic world.

Drawing lessons from this, His Royal Highness expressed hope that Malays and Muslims in the country would remain united, from political leaders to ordinary citizens. He warned against the dangers of division and internal conflict, which could weaken the community and create opportunities for external forces to exploit their vulnerabilities.

The Sultan observed an increase in disputes and disagreements among politicians, which could lead to public unease. He urged all parties to learn from history, where divisions among Malay Muslims allowed external forces to weaken their power and position in their homeland.

In his royal message, Sultan Sharafuddin, along with Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, extended Aidiladha greetings to Muslims nationwide, particularly those in Selangor. They also prayed for Malaysian haj pilgrims to have a smooth pilgrimage, maintain good health, and return home safely with a 'mabrur' haj.
