Mahkota Candidate Urges BN To Step Up Digital Campaign

Kluang: Political parties must adapt to the changing political landscape in the digital era and the rapid growth of social media platforms or risk being left behind and becoming "dinosaur parties", said Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah. The incumbent for Mahkota state assembly seat emphasized the significant shift in political landscape and campaign strategies from traditional face-to-face engagements to digital platforms.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Syed Hussien highlighted the critical role of the digital political landscape in shaping public perception and disseminating information, whether factual or defamatory. He urged BN's campaign machinery to leverage social media to share information about the state government's achievements and the party's track record, while focusing on policies and initiatives beneficial to the people.

Syed Hussien pointed out the importance of social media in shaping voters' perceptions, due to its rapid information dissemination capabilities. However, he cautioned against using these platforms for insulting or attacking political opponents, as the electorate is becoming more discerning and expects substance over mudslinging.

He commented on the satisfaction levels among Kluang residents concerning their quality of life, while noting the demand for higher wage employment opportunities. Syed Hussien also emphasized the potential of Kluang's coffee industry to boost the local economy, especially when integrated with ecotourism and rural tourism products. Attractions like traditional coffee shops and local tourist spots have been successful in attracting visitors, generating benefits for entrepreneurs and the tourism sector.

In the upcoming Johor state election, Syed Hussien is contesting against Pakatan Harapan candidate Dr Ahmad Zuhan Md Zain and Parti Bersama Malaysia candidate Abd Hamid Ali. During the Mahkota by-election in September 2024, he achieved a landslide victory with 27,995 votes, securing a significant majority over the Perikatan Nasional candidate, thereby enabling BN to retain the seat. Polling for the Johor state election is scheduled for July 11, with early voting on July 7.
