Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) is ready to hand over sensitive documents to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to facilitate the probe involving intelligence officers alleged to be the masterminds behind a smuggling syndicate. Chief of Defence Force Gen Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar stated that MAF has pledged full and transparent cooperation in the investigation.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Nizam emphasized that there is no issue in sharing documents with MACC, reaffirming their commitment to cooperation from the outset. He highlighted the importance of verifying the allegations and assured that appropriate actions would be taken based on the investigation’s outcomes. He further clarified that the operational duties of the five detained officers have been seamlessly taken over, ensuring no compromise in field operations.
Mohd Nizam confirmed that the detained officers belong to the Defence Intelligence Division and are currently under investigation. He urged patience to allow MACC to conduct its probe, warning against spreading misleading opinions. He acknowledged that if the allegations hold true, it indicates gaps needing attention, and emphasized this as an opportunity to fortify the organization against future challenges.
Regarding potential restructuring within the division, Mohd Nizam expressed complete trust in Defence Intelligence Director Lt Gen Datuk Mohd Razali Alias to address the situation appropriately. He viewed the investigation as a chance to discern whether the gaps are real or speculative.
Earlier reports indicated that MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki mentioned plans to obtain more information from the Defence Ministry to complete the investigation. The information, including classified reports, is expected to aid in probing activities believed to be occurring in the Strait of Malacca near Melaka and Johor.
