MACC To Record Statement From Ismail Sabri’s Former Son-In-Law – Azam Baki

Kuala Lumpur: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will record a statement from Datuk Jovian Mandagie, the former son-in-law of Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob. MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki stated that the Commission plans to meet Jovian in Indonesia soon, as his statement is crucial for verifying certain assets declared by Ismail Sabri.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Azam mentioned that MACC issued a directive for Ismail Sabri to declare his assets under Section 36(1) of the MACC Act 2009, which he complied with on February 10. The investigation is expected to conclude by the end of June, after which the findings will be submitted to the deputy public prosecutor for further action. Azam also revealed that statements have been recorded from 57 individuals to facilitate the corruption and money laundering investigation involving the country’s ninth prime minister.

On March 3, Azam noted that Ismail Sabri is a suspect in an ongoing probe into corruption and money laundering, following the discovery of approximately RM170 million in cash at a safe house during an MACC raid. The MACC has reportedly seized 13 bank accounts containing more than RM2 million in connection with the case.

In a separate development, Azam assured that the MACC will investigate allegations of corruption related to the pricing transparency of the MyKiosk project. The MACC received a report on the matter from MCA yesterday, while the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) submitted several related documents earlier today. Azam emphasized the need to verify the facts based on the information circulating on social media before drawing conclusions.

KPKT Minister Nga Kor Ming had previously indicated that the ministry is open to any investigation, including by the MACC, concerning the pricing transparency of MyKiosk.

In a different case, Azam confirmed that a warrant of arrest was issued against Datin Seri Pamela Ling Yueh for failing to appear for questioning in an ongoing graft and money laundering probe. He clarified that the warrant was issued solely due to her non-compliance with the order to present herself, which is an offence in itself. Ling, reported missing on April 9, was only summoned to assist in the investigation and was not detained as a suspect. She was abducted while on her way to the MACC headquarters.
