MACC Investigates Alleged Misconduct in RM4 Million DBKL Project

Kuala Lumpur: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is currently examining documents related to alleged misconduct by a member of the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) advisory board. The investigation focuses on a RM4 million project to determine potential criminal or misconduct issues.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki revealed that the commission recently accessed documents from DBKL’s internal investigations. These documents pertain to meetings and other relevant proceedings. The MACC’s examination aims to identify any violations under the MACC Act 2009 and assess governance issues.

Azam emphasized the cooperative efforts of DBKL, notably from Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif, who has provided the necessary documents for the investigation. He mentioned that the investigation would continue based on the details received, with an update expected by Monday if any issues are identified.

The Chief Commissioner instructed the Governance Investigation Division to initiate an investigation immediately if both criminal and governance elements are detected. At this stage, the MACC has not opened an investigation paper or summoned individuals for statements.

Azam noted that his team has allowed DBKL time for an internal probe and has had MACC officers stationed at DBKL since the previous year. Earlier media reports indicated that DBKL launched its own investigation into allegations against an advisory board member, who is also a film producer and director. The allegations involve a breach in governance procedures during the procurement process for a RM4 million creative content production project, which reportedly was not awarded through an open tender.
