Kuala lumpur: The government will continue to allow micro and small food and beverage businesses to use subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) even if their monthly usage exceeds 42 kilogrammes, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali announced. He stated that the Cabinet had directed amendments to the Control of Supplies (Amendment) Regulations 2021 to officially recognise this group.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, during a question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat, Armizan addressed concerns regarding the impact of LPG price hikes on small traders and hawkers, especially in rural areas. He assured that these businesses would continue to benefit from LPG subsidies, thus alleviating potential financial burdens.
Armizan responded to a question raised by Datuk Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff (PN-Rantau Panjang) regarding the ministry’s strategies to mitigate the impact of rising LPG prices. He revealed that engagement sessions are being conducted until October 31 to gather insights and proposals from stakeholders for the upcoming amendment.
Additionally, Armizan mentioned the introduction of a control mechanism aimed at preventing leakages and the diversion of subsidised gas for commercial purposes, which has been identified as an issue in the past.
