Kuala Lumpur: Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali has clarified that the use of subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders involves the Control of Supplies Regulations (Amendment) 2021 and not the Control of Supplies (Amendment) Act 2022 (Act A1652).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister Armizan emphasized during a recent press conference that he was specifically referencing the 2021 amendment, which was enacted and gazetted in 2021 and came into effect on October 15, 2021. He expressed hope that the public would not be confused by this issue.
Armizan further highlighted in a Facebook post that during the press conference on June 5, he explicitly mentioned the Control of Supplies Regulations (Amendment) 2021. A media statement was distributed at the same event to reinforce this point. He urged all parties to avoid causing public confusion by referencing laws he did not mention.
At the press conference, Armizan announced that micro and small traders in the food and beverage sector are allowed to continue using subsidised LPG cylinders without requiring a special permit until the new amendment to the 2021 regulations is finalized in October. He also assured that no legal action would be taken against traders during this transition period.
