Large Global Companies Join Malaysian AI Initiative, Signaling Trade Openness

KUALA LUMPUR: The participation of major companies from the United States, China, and Europe in Malaysia’s National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO) highlights the country’s trade openness and its diplomatic approach toward international collaboration, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Anwar noted that while the United States continues to lead in information technology and AI, significant involvement from European and Chinese firms underscores Malaysia’s ability to engage with diverse global partners. He emphasized the importance of enhancing trade relations through free trade agreements and other international trade accords during his keynote speech at the NAIO launch.

The event also featured the announcement of six strategic collaborations, underscoring key milestones in Malaysia’s AI journey. These partnerships with Toshiba, Global AI Village, YTL, Microsoft, Google, and Amazon Web Services aim to accelerate AI innovation, promote
industry adoption, and solidify Malaysia’s role as a regional leader in AI development.

Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo highlighted the significance of the event, marking the first anniversary of the ministry’s establishment. In his address, he stressed the need for Malaysia to prepare for digital challenges by focusing on infrastructure, security, and talent. To encourage innovation, attract investment, and bolster global confidence in Malaysia’s digital capabilities, robust connectivity is essential, he stated.
